Track Progress with Articulation Vacation App

The Articulation Vacation app is designed to help children in speech therapy track progress between sessions with a therapist. The app is built around a vacation theme so as to make it more fun for children as they practice. There are five different games that all have a summer vacation theme.

Game Options

Children can play the following games:

• Postcards: Children can read or listen to fun, short paragraphs which are presented in the form of postcards.
• Beach Treasure Hunt: Children look for hidden objects in the sand, uncovering them by swiping over the sand.
• Fishing: Children can fish, catching not only fish, but various objects that contain the targeted sounds.
• Picture-taking: In this game, children take pictures of objects containing the targeted sounds.
• Parachute: Children land lying parachutes that carry different objects containing the targeted sounds.

What Sounds are Practiced?

A variety of phonemes are practiced in the game including:

• Labial: w-/w/ sound presented as the initial and medial position in the word, phrase, and paragraph level.
• Labiodental: f-/f/, v-/v/ sounds presented as the initial and medial position in the word, phrase, and paragraph level.
• Glottal: h-/h/ sounds presented as the initial and medial position in the word, phrase, and paragraph level.
• Linguadental: th- /?/ sound presented as the initial and medial position in the word, phrase, and paragraph level.
• R-Blends: br, dr, fr, gr, kr, pr, tr sounds presented as the initial and medial position in the word, phrase, and paragraph level.
• L-Blends: bl, fl, gl, kl, pl, sl sounds presented as the initial and medial position in the word, phrase, and paragraph level.
• S-Blends: sk, sl, sm, sn, sp, st sounds presented as the initial and medial position in the word, phrase, and paragraph level.

Using the App

Parents can easily work with more than one child, select multiple phonemes work with, save them for the next session, and more. There is an audio recording feature, along with the ability to track corrected incorrect responses. Parents also have the option to allow written picture descriptions and/or to allow special sound effects. The app comes with reports that can be viewed in table form as well as graphic form. Results can be emailed at the end of the game. Parents can choose to have results emailed to them or directly to the speech therapists they are working with.

The app should not replace working directly with the speech therapist, but it can be a wonderful complement to a child’s treatment plan between sessions.
